SHORT-FORM GUIDELINE SPECIFICATION

SECTION 08800 – GLASS AND GLAZING

To assist in the development of architectural product specifications, the following is a guideline for specifying both monolithic coated glass and dual-sealed insulating glass as fabricated by CSG Architectural Glass Co. Ltd.

MONOLITHIC SOLAR CONTROL VISION GLASS

Solar control glass products shall be fabricated by CSG Architectural Glass Co. Ltd.:

Guangdong Facility: CSG Green Energy Industrial Zone. Machong, Dongguan, Guangdong, China
Production area: 500,000 square meters

Jiansu Facility: No. 869, Pangjin Road, Economic Development Zone, Wujiang, Jiangsu, China
Production area: 256,800 square meters

Tianjin Facility: No. 68, Fuyuan Road, Wuqing Development Area, Tianjin, China
Production area: 256,000spuare meters

Chengdu Facifity: NO.16 Section2 Huanglong Road, Shuangliu, Chengdu, Sichuan, China
Production area: 467,000spuare meters

The solar control glass products shall be fabricated with base float glass which complies with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) C1036 Standard Specification for Flat Glass requirements for Type 1 (transparent glass, flat), Class 1 (clear) or Class 2 (tinted), Quality q3 (glazing select). All the float glass selected from quality brand glass manufactures such as clear float glass made by CSG Float Glass Co. Ltd., low iron glass and tinted float glass made by CSG, PPG, Guardian and AGC. CSG Architectural Glass Co. Ltd fabricates their Solar Control, low-E and multi-function coated glass products in accordance with (ASTM) C 1376-97 Standard Specification for Pyrolytic and Vacuum Deposition Coatings on Glass.

Heat-treated glass where specified on the drawings or required by code shall be fabricated in accordance with ASTM C 1048 Standard Specification for Heat-Treated Flat Glass, Kind HS, Kind FT Coated and tempered glass shall meet American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z97.1-2004 – Safety Performance Specifications and Methods of Test for Safety Glazing

Materials Used in Buildings and Federal Safety Standard 16 CFR 1201 – Federal Safety Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials.

The Solar control products shall be handled and installed in accordance with good glazing practice as set forth in the Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Glazing Manual with the coated surface to the inside.

Consult additional SGC Architectural Glass Bulletins for assistance in specifying other high-performance reflective glass products.

Warranty – CSG warrants its solar-control coated glass for a period of ten (10) years from the
date of manufacture, against peeling, cracking or deterioration in the metallic coating due to faulty manufacture.

DUAL-SEALED INSULATING GLASS

The following is a guideline specifying dual-sealed insulation glass units as fabricated by CSG Holding Co. Ltd.

The Vision glass shall be dual sealed insulating glass units with base glass materials which meet provision for glazing quality float glass of ASTM C 1036 Standard Specification for Flat Glass. Type 1, Quality q3. Heat-treated glass products shall be fabricated in accordance with ASTM C 1048 Standard Specification for Heat-Treated Flat Glass. Units shall meet Class A certification Council as specified in ASTM E774 Standard Specification for Sealed Insulating Glass when tested in accordance with ASTM E773 Standard test for Seal Durability of Sealed Insulating Glass.

The insulating glass units shall be constructed with a (glass thickness and coating description if applicable) outboard lite, an air spacer, and a (glass thickness and coating description if applicable) inboard lite. Units shall incorporate a polyisobutylene primary seal; a two-part silicone secondary seal and two dimensions of the spacer frame filled with desiccant.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE GLASS – DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

The CSG IG coatings must be edge-deleted and sealed within an insulating glass unit. Edge deletion of the coatings may result in a discernible difference at the glass edge in structural silicone glazing applications.

The coatings require heat-treating when used on a tinted substrate, consult SGC Technical Service Department for a thermal stress analysis.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

The insulating unit shall have the following nominal performance characteristics:

Average Daylight Transmittance (%)

Average Daylight Reflectance (%)

Shading Coefficient

Winter U-Value

Summer U-Value

Relative Heat Gain

INSULATING GLASS CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Insulating glass units must be permanently marked either on spacers or on at least one component lite of unit with appropriate certification label of inspecting and testing organization indicated below:

Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC).

Warranty – Provide manufacturer’s written warranty against seal failure of insulating glass units for a period of 10 years from the date of manufacture.

Handling and Installation – Insulating units shall be handled and installed in accordance with good glazing practice as set forth in the Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Glazing Manual and the Sealed Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association’s Glazing Guidelines.

Consult additional SGC Architectural Glass Bulletins for assistance in specifying other high performance glass products.

The above information is offered as a guideline for the specification of SGC architectural glass products. SGC assumes no responsibility for the adequacy of the specification for a particular application. It is the responsibility of the design professional to consult local building codes and building design conditions for assurance that a specified product meets code and application requirements.
The information is offered for your assistance in the application of products fabricated by CSG Architectural Co. Ltd. Actual performance may vary in particular applications
